What is the VCE?
The Victorian Certificate of Education is the main secondary school qualification for students in Victoria, providing pathways to university, TAFE, and employment.
Key Structure Points
- Typically completed over Years 11-12
- Made up of units (each lasting one semester)
- To graduate, students need at least 16 units, including:
- 3 units from the English group (with at least one Unit 3-4 sequence)
- 3 other Unit 3-4 sequences
Assessment
- School-based: School-Assessed Coursework (SACs) and Tasks (SATs)
- External: End-of-year examinations
- Results combine to form study scores (out of 50) for each subject
- The ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) is calculated from these scores and used for university entrance
